aBRICKadabra is the Philippine LEGO Convention and family day held at the Main Plaza of Resorts World Manila last April 18,2015 Saturday. In attendance were over 700 PhLUG members joined along by members of Resorts World Manila.
The well attended convention began with a ribbon cutting late in the afternoon. Joining LEGO Ambassador Randy Protacio are Atty Marco Sardillo III – Intramuros Administrator, Mr. Louie Angelo Cruz representing the Danish Embassy Manila, and Mr Patrick Pesengco of LAJ Marketing. The convention was also attended by LEGO Ambassador of Manitoba Canada Billy Martens with wife Erin, also to show support are representatives from Singapore, Jun Brickfinder and Teresa Michelle Brickfinder
Program proper at the Main Plaza stage were hosted by proud PhLUGgers EJ Mangahas and Jeff Tagle with Leslie Lagdameo at the controls. Games organized by the lady AFOLs-Team PMS were held on the side of the stage as videos and talks happened. The Hope Christian School Robotics team also had a presentation and demonstration.
Highlight of the program was the unveiling of the central courtyard of Intramuros where the Manila Cathedral, Plaza Roma as well as notable buildings in the area were first shown to the public. Intramuros Administrator Marco Sardillo III who helped unveil the six foot model was quick in saying that he himself is a LEGO lover and he has a Simpson’s House in his office. The Intramuros Project is a long-term project taken on by PhLUG to help boost awareness about the old walled city of Manila.
Special Interest Group (SIG) admins also took to stage in order to share their techniques, passion for building. PhLUG Mech, Urban Builders, Castle Dio, Armored Division, Starfleet, Minifig Collectors, Technicle and Garage each had a chance to pitch to the crowd.
The LEGO Certified Store also made an announcement that the first ever store will open on at Kidzania Bonifacio Global City. Representatives from Hobbes and Landes as well as Build City were seen in full-force at the event. The crowd, seated all over the place, went wild with the announcement. The new store is expected to have the sought after Pick a Brick wall and the build a fig options for its guests.
Towards the evening, the annual PhLUG awards were held, where notable builders, like John Raphael Guzman-MOCer of the Year, were rewarded for their outstanding creations. Stanley Lao, PhLUG co-founder, delivered the closing remarks and rallied the members to take the hobby further.
